Building Your TeamAlthough coping with lung cancer can be an overwhelming experience, having a caring medical team, which includes your physicians and nursing staff, is extremely valuable to help you through the expected and unexpected. In addition, your willingness to seek and accept support from your family and friends as integral members of your team will go a long way toward helping you cope and appreciate those around you. Fortunately, your role as a patient has changed from a passive one to an active partner. Patients work in partnership with the oncologist and the rest of their healthcare team, which includes various specialists, family, friends, and community resources. Communicating with members of your team helps give you a sounding board and helps them to understand what you are experiencing and feeling. This allows your team to respond to your needs, expectations, and concerns. For more information on how to build your own team
